The 5 Best Coffee Shops in Hackney Wick (2026 Guide)
Five of the best coffee shops in Hackney Wick, from fresh beans and canalside cake to the best spot to work and a matcha queue worth joining.
Hackney Wick has no shortage of good coffee shops, whether you're after freshly roasted beans, a slice of cake or a seat to watch the neighbourhood go by. These are the five we keep going back to.
Ozone in hand, fresh from HWK.
1. Bad Coffee
For a taste of what coffee shops in Hackney Wick felt like before the area's transformation, Bad Coffee is hard to beat. The name is a bluff: the coffee is seriously good, and the beans are roasted right there in the room with you. Good vibes, nothing too polished, and all the better for it.
This is a grab-and-go spot rather than somewhere to settle in. There are a few casual seats outside, but leave the laptop at home. Do bring a bag, though, because this is one of the best places in the Wick to pick up beans to take home. When we last bought a bag, they threw in a flat white for free. No promises it'll happen to you, but it tells you something about the place.
Who it suits: Coffee people who like to see where their beans come from, anyone stocking up for home, and anyone missing the old Wick.

Verdict: Unpolished in all the right ways.
2. HWK
Set among the newer apartment blocks, HWK has been part of the neighbourhood since it opened. It pours Ozone coffee, and if you want a coffee the minute you step out of Hackney Wick station, this is your go-to.
During the day it works well for opening a laptop or holding a short meeting in person. Our favourite seat is at the counter, where you can watch the baristas work their magic. Don't write it off once the afternoon's gone, either: the bar in the evening is well worth a look too.
Who it suits: Laptop workers, quick catch-ups, and anyone who wants coffee straight off the train.

Verdict: The first stop off the train, and worth coming back to after dark.
3. The Roasting Shed
Head over the bridge towards the Copper Box Arena and you'll find The Roasting Shed. The coffee is excellent, but the real test is getting past the cake. Order the olive oil and rosemary cake: it's the best thing on the counter and the reason this one is so hard to walk past.
It's a grab-and-go counter rather than a sit-down café, but that's no hardship. There's plenty of seating along the canal and in the Hackney Bridge gardens, so take your coffee and cake outside and make an occasion of it.
Who it suits: Cake people, and anyone who'd rather drink their coffee by the water.
Website: theroastingshed.com
Verdict: Excellent coffee, and the olive oil and rosemary cake alone justifies the walk.
4. Saint Espresso
Over at Here East, Saint Espresso is a dependable all-rounder for coffee, cakes and light bites. It's part of the wider Saint Espresso family, so if you know their other cafés, you'll know what to expect, and that's rather the point.
It's also the best place on this list to work from home without actually being at home. There's loads of seating, so you won't be hovering for a table. The catch: there are no plug sockets, so arrive fully charged and plan your stay around your battery.
Who it suits: Remote workers with a full battery, and anyone after coffee, something sweet and a light bite in one stop.

Verdict: The best desk in the Wick, as long as your laptop's charged.
5. Juju's Home
Our honourable mention, and one that absolutely earns its place. Coffee might be the theme of this guide, but at Juju's the matcha is the real star. The queues you sometimes see outside suggest plenty of other people agree.
It's a shop as much as a café, and a dangerous one. You'll come for the matcha and leave with a candle, a bar of soap and a handful of other independent goodies you didn't know you needed. Budget accordingly.
Who it suits: Matcha drinkers, and anyone shopping for a gift (or for themselves).
Website: jujuhomecha.com
Verdict: Come for the matcha, leave with a bag full of shopping.
Getting around
All five are within walking distance, so a coffee crawl is entirely doable. Saint Espresso is the furthest walk, so save it for when you've got time to settle in. If you want coffee the moment you leave Hackney Wick station, HWK is the one.
Know somewhere we've missed? Hackney Wick's coffee scene keeps changing, so we'll keep this guide updated as new spots open and old favourites evolve.
